Jay privacy policy.
This privacy policy governs your use of the software application Jay (“Application”) for mobile devices, created by Liquid Thought, LLC. Jay is a companion for kids and understands speech much like Siri. Jay knows how to converse, likes to tell stories, loves math games, and can race friends in math games.
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
User Provided Information: The Application does not keep any information spoken by the user. The information spoken by the user is used to form replies, but it is not kept beyond that. Speech is recognized on the device. On devices that can’t recognize speech on their own, iOS may send the audio to Apple to recognize it, under Apple’s privacy policy. When Apple Intelligence is turned on, Jay uses Apple’s on-device model to understand the child and write new stories; this happens on the device and nothing is sent to us.
Kept on the device: The Application keeps the child’s grade, high scores, the list of games played (date, kind of game and score), the results of races (date, kind of race, and each racer’s nickname and score) and the nickname used for races on the device, so Jay can pick up where the child left off. This information stays on the device and is never sent to us. Games, races and high scores can be cleared on the Scores screen, the nickname erased on the race screen, and everything removed by uninstalling the Application.
Automatically Collected Information: The Application does not collect information automatically, such as the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device's unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, or information about the way you use the Application.
Races with friends
Races are optional. A grown-up can start a race, or join one with a short code such as FOX-42. During a race, the Application connects to a race server run by Liquid Thought, LLC on its own computer, over an encrypted connection. It sends only what the race needs: the first name or nickname the child picks, the race code, the kind of math game and grade, the questions, and the child’s answers. The other players in the same race see the nickname and the scores, and their Application keeps them with that race’s results on their device, as described above.
The race server keeps this information only in memory, and deletes it when everyone has left the race, within two hours at most. It is never written to disk or kept in a log, and no account is needed. Like any internet connection, the race server sees the device’s IP address while connected; we don’t keep it, and race connections are left out of our web server’s logs.
Please pick a first name or a nickname, not a full name.
Does the Application collect precise real-time location information of the device?
The Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?
No third parties have access to information obtained by the Application. In a race, the other players in that race see the nickname and the scores, and keep them with the race results on their own device, as described above.
If Liquid Thought, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, the Application will feature a prominent notice of any change in this privacy policy.
Does the Application show ads?
The Application does not show any ads.
What are my opt-out rights?
Races are the only part of the Application that sends anything to us; if you don’t want that, simply don’t start or join a race. Information kept on the device can be cleared as described above, or removed by uninstalling the Application.
Data retention policy, managing your information
We retain no data. Race information is deleted when everyone has left the race, within two hours at most. The grade, scores, race results and race nickname stay on the device until you clear them or uninstall the Application.
Children
The Application is made for children. It does not collect data from children; races use only a nickname, which our race server keeps until everyone has left the race. We do not use the Application to solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.
Security
Races use an encrypted connection, and race information lives only in the race server’s memory until everyone has left the race. No other information from the Application resides on our systems.
Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. We will post the new Privacy Policy here and the Application will feature a prominent notice of the change. You can check the version history of this policy.
Your consent
By using the Application, you are consenting to the terms set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us.
